Mel Harmison views on first win of the season
After the tremendous 3-1 victory at Billingham Synthonia on Saturday, Bedlington Terriers’ new manager described his feelings at the result, at a ground few teams find joy: “Not surprisingly I’m absolutely delighted with the scoreline – and I thought we fully deserved the victory. I always knew the opening weeks to the season would be difficult, and if I’m honest, few would have predicted that this would be the game in which we began to prove ourselves as a Northern League Division One team.”
He paid tribute to the work rate of his young and relatively inexperienced new squad: “I’m overjoyed that the lads are started to see the fruits of all the hard work they’ve put in over the last few weeks in difficult circumstances. Their commitment and team work in this game was fantastic, and I couldn’t have asked any more of them.” He added: “I don’t want to pick any particular players out for special praise, as all of them played well, but the latest signings have fitted in really well and are producing excellent performances within a very short time of signing for the Club.”
Harmison confirmed that he would be continuing to seek to strengthen the Bedlington squad: “The task of identifying players who I believe can make a difference will continue.” He was able to confirm that ex-Blyth Spartans players Jamie Burt had signed for the club as part of that process. Burt spent a short time at Bedlington a few years ago during a pre-season without going on to play for the club in a competitive game.
